Let’s Talk About Love by Petch Osathanugrah

Petch Osathanugrah, one of the finest and most outstanding singer-songwriters in today’s music scene, is an artist with a mysterious persona and one of a kind music career.

His first album Thammada..Mun Pen Ruang Thammada (released in September 1987) was a ground-breaking record that had inspired a whole generation of musicians and songwriters with its innovative electro-pop songs that was far ahead of its time, and has proved to be remarkably strong and timeless even today.

He started to write songs at the age of 12. While studying in a university in the U.S., he wrote a song in English called I’m Just a Man, which later
became Pieng Chai Kon Nee (Mai Chai Pu Wiset) when he put Thai lyrics to it while making his first album. The song had become an all-time classic and is considered one of the most romantic modern Thai songs ever written. However, his first album also contained many great songs such as Thammada, the title track (with Petch chanting like a group of Buddhist monks in the hook line), and Din Kun Mai Lung (a dance track about an old man who went into a disco by accident). In fact every song in the whole album were so creative and memorable, which is the reason why this album has remained on top of most collectors’ list of must-have albums.

After the release of his phenomenal first album, Petch disappeared from the music scene totally. He moved on to do other things: making TV programs, writing short stories, and publishing a magazine. He also became an avid art collector and his collection of Thai contemporary art is considered one of the best. His interest in Dharma and meditation and the desire to lead a quiet life had been one of reasons that made him avoid being in the pop music spot-light.
In April 2007, he surprised everyone in Thai music world with the release of Let’s Talk About Love, his long awaited second album after 20 years of absence. The album’s title track, Let’s Talk About Love, hit number 1 on Fat Radio Chart and propelled Petch back into the spot-light. With unique and cutting-edge music videos of his songs on every music channels (he has promised to make one for each song in the new album), including giant screens at shopping centers and cinemas all over Bangkok, and Petch and his alter-ego the Mini-Petch doll on magazine covers, the legendary artist has made a big come back.
